When you’re in need of a bathroom storage solution, a trip to the Dollar Tree might be one of the first stops you make. From wooden crates to clear glass bowls with lids, there’s something for just about every storage need you have. But what if you want something a little more delicate, a bit prettier? For TikToker @homegoodiys, that’s the time to try an easy DIY Dollar Tree storage hack that brings together a few cylinder-shaped vases, a handful of flower-shaped incense trays, and some paint to personalize the craft.

For this DIY, you have a couple of options in terms of vase sizes. The larger of the two Dollar Tree vases is 7.25 inches by 3.5 inches. The smaller of the two vases stands 6 inches high and is 3.5 inches wide. Depending on your storage needs, you could DIY a couple of vases of the same height. If you’d like a more dramatic look, you may want to try to make a tall one and a short one. Or do what designers do and follow the rule of three by putting together three of these canisters to create visual symmetry.

A 2-inch lid ring from a Mason jar plus a flower-shaped incense burner form the makings of a lid for each of the jars you make. Black spray paint (or a color that matches your decor) spiffs up the lids. Superglue holds the various lid components together. You’ll also need something to keep your painting area clean.

Making the glass canister set

The most complicated part of this DIY is putting the lids together. This portion of the project starts with you prepping the incense holders for painting by filling the hole in the top point of the flower with a dollop of glue. Next, you’ll need to glue each Mason jar lid to one of the incense holders. Once the glue is dry, you’ll put a coat or two of paint on it. If you want a dramatic contrast, cover the lids with some Rust-Oleum American Accents black paint. Once the lids dry, top the canisters with them. If you’d like fancier canisters, add some pretty labels or decals to the sides of the jars.

These would look lovely on your bathroom counter as storage bins for bath salts or scented bath bombs from the Beauty by Earth Store. If you’d like to dress up the presentation even more, buy a Dollar Tree beveled mirror and create a mirrored tray for the jars. Sit the canisters on top of the mirrored tray. The lip on the beveled mirror stair steps upwards, making a barrier that prevents the jars from sliding off the tray. For a more natural look, swap out the beveled mirror for one of Dollar Tree’s wood trays with handles. Two of the cylinders should fit inside it with room leftover to place a small soap dish or use as hand towel storage.
