The Real Reason Some HGTV Fans Don’t Like Rock The Block
We all know that reality TV can exaggerate certain elements, but competition shows come with a certain level of trust. “Rock the Block” is a series on HGTV that pits top HGTV stars against each other in a battle of the best interior and exterior home designs. However, fans have been wondering whether the competition is real or rigged. There are several clues that point to the fact that “Rock the Block” might not be as genuine as viewers are led to believe. In fact, the series has a long history of viewers disagreeing with the judges based on some bad design choices featured on HGTV’s “Rock the Block.”
That being said, the most notable issue with “Rock the Block” is the judging format. The judges have historically been aware of whose project they are assessing, which means bias could have come into play. If the judges favor a certain designer, they could easily give them preferential treatment. Last year’s Season 5 winner had fans calling out the judge’s aversion to creativity and innovation. Countless posts across social media platforms emphasized the unfair treatment that Keith and Evan’s daring designs received throughout the season. In fact, Keith and Evan made their own accusations against the producers regarding unfair treatment. The original post has been deleted, but it included calling the lead producers liars and manipulators.
All of the problems with Rock the Block
The original caption of this Instagram post by Keith was: “I woke up today knowing two things were true in my heart. First, I love @emuralit more than anything, and no one can take that from me. The second is, things done in the dark eventually come to light. #ndasareforever.” The second sentence has since been removed from the caption. Even all the way back in Season 3, Keith and Evan never won a weekly challenge, in spite of their luxurious “Rock the Block” home that was being sold for $1.25 million.
The outrage from the fans didn’t end after Season 5. In fact, viewers are just as critical about the judging in the current season of “Rock the Block.” Fans sounded off in the comments on a House Digest Facebook post asking for their opinion on Alison’s winning kitchen. Facebook user Jerry Olsen commented, “Too much green, seems like they crowned her the winner before it started, she thinks she owns the show,” garnering a whopping 146 likes. It seems like “Rock the Block” isn’t beating the allegations regarding the winner being predetermined. In general, “Rock the Block” seems to reward more contemporary – yet often impractical — design choices. This isn’t the first time HGTV has come under fire for condemning creative decor. HGTV’s “Ugliest House in America” divided viewers with a controversial paint choice.
