If your home’s walls could talk, what would they say? Well, if your room is painted a boring solid hue, they might be begging for a little bit of excitement. You could think about installing a gallery wall or consider calming wallpapers if you find bright patterns overwhelming, but Erin Napier found another perfect solution with a statement-making painted arch. 

As the co-star of HGTV’s “Home Town,” Erin and her husband Ben Napier go across the country to give smaller towns the tender, loving care — and the beautiful design makeovers — they deserve. Translation? She knows a thing or two about freshening up a room. Napier has even posted some of her favorite transformations on her Instagram page, which is where we spotted one of her brightest ideas yet: an orange living room with a large, peachy arch painted on one of the walls.

Most accent wall ideas that you’ll see everywhere in 2025 will require you to paint one wall a completely different color than the rest. While this pop of color certainly makes a statement, it can occasionally overwhelm the rest of your space. Instead, Napier’s version offers the best of both worlds; it stands out without sticking out like a sore thumb. Plus, a painted arch is a great way to make a console table, bookcase, or television feel like an intentional addition to your room.

Want to create your very own arched accent wall just like Erin Napier’s? The first thing to do is to select your paint shades. While contrasting colors offer a dash of drama, hues that belong to a similar color family will be easier on the eyes. Since the colors Napier used are both warmer tones, the arch pops without commanding too much attention. If you want to copy the HGTV star’s subtler approach, you should also select paint colors with the same finishes; a glossy arch against a matte backdrop will look mismatched.

After choosing colors, it’s time to determine the size, shape, and placement of your arch, and you can complete the Home Town-inspired look with a few of Erin Napier’s top painting tips. For a perfectly symmetrical arch, cut a piece of string the size of your arch’s radius. Tie a pencil to one end of your string and tape the lower end to your wall, then pull it taut to draw the curve of your arch. From there, use painter’s tape to mark the straight sides of your arch, using a leveler to make sure everything’s straight. 

This accent idea will look great on a basic white surface, but if you want to cover your walls in a new color, paint your background first. After the newly-painted wall is completely dry, it’s time to add your arch. If you’re painting a light-colored arch over a darker wall, you’ll need to apply primer to your intended arch area. Otherwise, dip an angled brush into your paint, trace your arch’s outline, then fill in the center. Apply an extra coat if needed, and you’ll have an accent wall that wows.
