Make An Adorable DIY Perfume Tower With A Few Affordable Dollar Tree Finds
Perfume bottles are like small pieces of art and, as such, they deserve to be displayed properly. Unfortunately, buying a new perfume or cologne display case can cost you upwards of $50. So why spend that kind of cash when you can DIY your own budget-friendly custom perfume tower with just a few Dollar Tree items? In addition to offering an affordable alternative to buying something new, this project also lets you customize the display to your specific needs and style — and is a great way to get your creative juices flowing. Not to mention these items make an excellent Dollar Tree organizer to declutter your space and keep your perfume — and surfaces — organized.
For this project, you will need four small Crafter’s Square Rectangular Wooden Crates with Handles, two White Plastic Floating Shelves, a set of string lights, wood glue, paint, and optionally some glitter tape or ribbon, and adhesive mirrored vinyl to add a special touch. But, of course, the personalization options are practically endless. Check out how to make this DIY perfume tower, and let your creativity lead the way.
How to build the perfume tower
Once you’ve gathered all of the required materials, it’s time to get crafting. First, you will want to paint your wooden crates white to match the floating shelves. Or, you can choose a different color all together. Once the paint is dry, start arranging your crates in preparation to be glued. Stand two upright side-by-side, and stack a symmetrical pair on top. Carefully weave your string lights through the handles on each crate to create a light source.
When you’re happy with the light placement, start gluing your four wooden crates together to create the tower. You can use binder clips to hold the crates together while the glue dries. Next, place your first floating shelf upside down on a surface and place the glued four crates on top. Now take the other floating shelf and glue it on top of the tower — this time right-side-up. For a fancy finishing touch, you can add reflective vinyl to each crate as a sort of decorative shelf liner to help your perfume really pop. Finally, you can opt to cover the front-facing edges of your shelf with rhinestones or glitter ribbon to give the final product a glamorous flair.
Make it your own
The best part of any DIY project is breaking the rules and making it your own. With this perfume display tower, it’s easy to swap materials in and out or use them in a different way to create something that is unique to you. Even simple changes such as keeping the bottom floating shelf right side up or turning the wooden crates on their side can totally alter the final product. Just be sure to look at your perfume collection so you can be sure to craft something that fits the sizes of the bottles.
Other changes you can consider include adding more boxes to display more perfume bottles or using stencils to paint a beautiful pattern onto the sides of the perfume tower. If you want to get more creative with this project, you can also use the display case to show off plant propagations or flowers by turning your old perfume bottles into adorable DIY vases — it’ll add some visual interest while still staying on theme. For a different look altogether, try using clear acrylic crates instead of wood to give the illusion of a fancy glass display.
