Create A Gorgeous DIY Dining Room Booth With Pool Noodles

Adding booth seating to your dining room is a solid way to make your space feel more relaxing. While these arrangements might sound like they’re better suited for restaurants than for homes, they’re often surprisingly elegant and chic. And with the right upholstery and cushion height, they can suit just about any traditional or contemporary interior design. Thankfully, you don’t necessarily have to spend a fortune to add these comfortable seats to your dining room. In fact, you can create a gorgeous DIY dining room booth with the help of a few pool noodles. If you attach these inexpensive foam pieces to a large plank of plywood with some hot glue, and then wrap fabric around them, you’ll have the perfect seat back. For an especially neat version of this hack, you’ll put together a tall booth seat with pool noodles to give your dining room a more luxurious look.

To build your own dining room booth, you’ll need to first select a base for the seat. You can opt for a window bench-style furnishing, or just put a few cushions on top of a sturdy TV console. You’ll need to wrap your furnishing’s cushions with the fabric that you’re using on the seat back, or select a fabric for the seat back that matches your cushions. You can use your stunning new booth seat to replace once-popular dining room trends that are making your home look dated.

How to DIY an elegant dining room booth

To begin, take your plywood board and cut it down to match the preferred size of your seat back. If you need to link together multiple boards, use flat metal brackets. Next, use hot glue to attach pool noodles to the wood horizontally, so that they’re completely covering its surface, except for a 3-4 inch stretch at the bottom. Cut away the sections of the pool noodle that run beyond the edges of the boards with a sharp knife. Then, cut a fabric sheet that can wrap around the board and the noodles. You can use a red suede fabric like the TikToker does in the video above to make things look dramatic, or opt for a more natural look by using a taupe or spruce green color instead.

Staple your fabric to the back of the wood along the top, and then hot glue it down in the divets between the noodles. Once it’s dry, staple the rest of the fabric to the wood backing. Next, you’ll need to reupholster your cushions with more of the same fabric if they don’t match the seat back. You can do this by hand, or with a sewing machine. Now, fit the seat back into place, and attach it to your bench or console with wood screws. Finally, use furniture anchors or toggle bolts to attach the top of the seat back to the wall. The finished product is a small change that will make your home feel more luxurious.
