Non-binary Lizard Mating Ritual

Non-binary Lizard Mating Ritual

The Sonoran Spotted Whiptail lizard is one of the most interesting species that visits our backyard.

They are a reminder that mother nature paints outside the lines of what we may think is normal or natural.

There are no males in this species, and they reproduce by creating fertile eggs through a cloning process.

However, the lizards still perform the mating ritual of "locking up" to stimulate reproduction (as seen in this video).

This is a type of parthenogenesis.
